Theft of credit card data is known only be done by breaking the data from the computer. But apparently, from a game console device no matter, it can be done.

Safety research conducted by a group of students from Drexel University and Dakota State University, stated that they could extract information from the credit card game console Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

Credit card data theft Xbox users can still be done even if the console game has been reset to factory default settings and contents of the hard drive is removed.

Last year, Ashley Podhradsky, Rob D'Ovidio, and Cindy Casey from Drexel University, along with Pat Engebretson from Dakota State University, buy a refurbished Xbox 360 (new but used / service-red) in an official Microsoft retail stores.

They then download the application for modification (modding) game console in order to access files and folders on the Xbox 360.

They said, Microsoft is doing things that could harm users for not taking action to secure the user data.

"Microsoft did a great job to protect their own information. But Microsoft is not doing a great job to protect the data users," said researcher Ashley Podhradsky.

Unfortunately, many hackers who know how to extract credit card information. "Anyone is free to download the application," said Podhradsky who do not give out the name of the application to steal credit card data.

To avoid data theft, Podhradsky recommend Xbox users delete the contents of your hard drive by connecting the console to the PC, then formatted using the software with the ability to 'write 1s' and '0 s'.

Podhradsky recommended software is Darik's Boot And Nuke.
